AI and Copyright: The Big Picture

Sooner or later, you’re going to get sued. I’m sorry, that’s just the nature of life in the US. Somebody’s going to claim your AI product infringes their copyright, trademark, or fifth grade report card, and they’re going to slap your name in the little block that says, “Defendant.”

And truthfully, there’s not much you can do to prevent it. Anyone with some basic typing skills, a form book, and money to cover a filing fee can sue you for just about anything. Half the time, they’re just hoping you’ll settle quickly just to avoid the hassle.

Let’s take a look at the basic categories of copyrighted material in terms of how AI plays. Later, we’ll talk about prevention.
